Mata sa Kaamulan 2025

  • Malaybalay City, Northern Mindanao Philippines (map)

Part two of Balay Kasamtangan’s adventures with Nica Aquino a.k.a. Mata Art Gallery, the team brings her and her mother to the beginning of Kaamulan Festival, Bukidnon’s annual celebration of culture that calls together all 7 tribes of the region.

The group explores Malaybalay City, exchanging stories with the Baïs (respected female tribal leaders) that were creating intricate beaded jewelry in the festival’s central structure. Many of the tribal communities walk almost hundreds of kilometers to reach the regional capital to participate, and the group sits in support as they listen to their personal hopes and struggles.

Following that, Nica and Nikki explore the Abbey of Transfiguration, a well-known Brutalist structure near their accommodations. Taking a morning hike through the wide plateau, the two talk about life and promises for future visitations.
